IUBMB Comments
The enzyme transfers galactose from UDP-alpha-D-galactose to the 3-position of substrates with a non-reducing terminal N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosamine (beta-GlcNAc) residue. It can act on both glycolipids and glycoproteins, generating a structure known as the type 1 histo-blood group antigen precursor.
